Dirt....Dust....Noise

Well, we've done it now! We've gone and started a HUGE project, but one that we are going to love the finished product. Darren and I decided to do an addition to our home. After much planning and re-planning and many different drafts on the table,we finally came up with one that we both love and ready, set....GO! Bring on the dirt, dust, and noise! We are adding on a new kitchen (yea for me!), dining room, full bath, pantry and mud room. We will now have a back door that we can enter the house. Everything has gone pretty smoothly and we almost have it enclosed. The framing is being put up as I type this and should be mostly done by Monday. The inside of my house now has a fine layer of dust on everything so if anyone would like to come over and dust....go ahead :) August has had a blast with this whole process. He can't wait to get home from daycare to see what's new! When you ask him what we are doing he says "Building mommy kitchen!" He is constantly covered in dirt and every night we just strip his clothes at the door and go straight to the bath! It's been neat to see his reaction to everything that we have done. Thankfully the weather has been absolutely gorgeous here, and the rain is waiting until we have a roof :) I will try to post pictures as we get different things done.

Oregan/Washington Trip

In February, we wen to Oregan/Washington to see some great friends of ours (Dan & Juliann) and their new baby Harley and also to see some other great friends of ours get married (Eric & Chandra). We had an absolute blast!!! I was really dissappointed when I got home and realized that I hadn't taken near as many pictures as I should have. That always seems to happen to me. We can't wait til we can go back again. Oregan and Washington are such beautiful places! August had a blast riding on the big airplane and he loved all the bidges and tunnels that we drove through. He still talks about "Dan Man, Juann, baby Hotty, and Ocsar" (their dog) Hopefully we can go back soon!

Real close to where Dan & Juliann live is this awesome waterfall. We weren't really prepared for it and it was a bit cold, so we didn't get to hike up all the way, but what we did see was breathtaking!

In February we got quite the snow storm :) Well...it was enough snow to make a snow man anyways. August LOVED playing in the snow and even now will ask where the snow man went!

Wow! I can't believe how long it has been since I have blogged! We have been so busy around here I just couldn't find the time to do it. So much has happened since my last post. We celebrated Thanksgiving by making a flying trip to Colorado to get all of our "stuff" out of storage, celebrated Christmas with some super special company from Chicago, Tyler and Dana, then celebrated New Years at Marcus and Shandas. Then, we celebrated August's 2nd birthday!!! Mom and Dad and Jill and the kids came for the weekend and we had tonz of crazy fun! August had a great "happy day" and got lots of new toys to play with. Aunt Cinda and Hayden came to see us the week after his birthday! So, we've had lots of wonderful company and a fun time the past few months.

We can't believe that August is 2 years old already. I don't know what happened to my little baby boy! He is growing up WAY to fast. So far, the two's have been good to us. I hope that I don't jinx it by saying that :) I really think that he acted more like a two year old when he was one! One thing that I think helped him is that we had tubes put in his ears just before Christmas. 7 ear infections in one year was a little bit too much for us to handle, especially when antibiotics caused him to be a crazy child!!!! Now we are getting into the very independent stage. Everything is "I do it!" August has a very extensive vocabulary. He will say everything you tell him to...and lots that you don't want him to say. He talks non-stop and is very observant about the world around him. He has an amazing memory and can remember things that he did weeks ago. He can count to 11 and say most of them in Spanish as well, say his ABC's (sort of), knows all of his shapes, can sing Intsy Bitsy Spider, How Much is that Doggie, and Twinkle Twinkle little star. He loves to play with his new train set from Mamaw and PaPa, read stories, put puzzles together, and run, run, run and jump, jump, jump. He still goes 100 mph alllll day long! Some phrases that he is saying are "I can't", "I don't want to", "Show me" (instead of show you), "Hold you" "Don't hit friends". Whenever one of us leaves for the day he tells us to "Be careful driving" and our favorite is that he is finally saying "I love you to Mommy"...or Daddy" Those are words that will melt your heart! So, we are having a great time here with our 2 year old and know that we will have a great year ahead of us!!!!

August LOVES to put puzzles together. I had to put this picture on here because it is one of the very RARE moments that Trace, Trevin, and August have sat at a table together long enough to get the camera out!!

One of August FAVORITE toys given to him by Tyler and Dana. It can carry everything....firewood, toys, stuffed animals....August. :) He is always asking for a ride!

22 Months

Once again, another month has flown by. We are really enjoying living as Texans :) I think that August is enjoying the warmer weather here. He loves to go outdoors. I think that he would live out there if we would let him! He has discovered sidewalk chalk and will ask to go outside and "chalk it" all day long. We have a really long driveway and he loves to get on his bike or scooter and ask's to be pushed to the "mill box" August seems to be growing up faster than we intend him to. Our baby is no longer a baby and we have quickly seen him go from 2 word sentences to 4-5 word sentences almost overnight. He has a mind of his own and is very strong willed which has been challanging lately. I really think that he is starting his 2's early! And, the kid is growing like a weed! Nothing is out of his reach. Today, I found him climbing onto the computer chair, onto the desk and reaching onto the VERY top shelf to get down the pen that I had hid from him. During all of this, he knocked down some books, and broke the letter "M" off of the keyboard. So, excuse any misspelled words.

Like I said, nothing is out of his reach. So much for having an organized can shelf.

Sorry but this is going to be a short one! Just a few pictures of August to show what he's been up to....trouble :) We are doing great here but are in the process of moving in to our new house and starting new jobs so it hasn't left much time for blogging. Hopefully next month it will have slowed down a bit. HAHA! August is growing like a weed and will say just about anything now. He is starting to put together 3 word sentences. He is loving the extra room that we have acquired and loves to spend time outdoors. He makes us laugh with his silly personality.

Now that I've let him do this once.....he ALWAYS wants to do it.

August has finally got up the nerve to lay down in the bathtub. He can't stand water in his ears so it took him a little while to do this. Now he thinks its the coolest thing ever. But its so funny because he won't open his eyes and he just sits there and laughs.

August was playing in his crib one day and when I went to look what he had done, he told me Puppy, paci, bank!

Grapevine Train ride and Ft. Worth Stockyards

For Trace & Trevin's 3rd birthday, we all took a train ride from Grapevine to Ft. Worth. It stops at the Ft. Worth stockyards and you have about 2 hours to shop and do whatever (ride the mechanical bull) then you ride the train back to Grapevine. Then we had supper at Rainforest Cafe. We had a great day and the kids loved it.

Brad and Lesha had a "Welcome to Texas" party for us. Little did we (or anyone else) know that it wasn't going to be the typical party. But...I guess it is pretty typical for Brad and Lesha. They had everyone sit down at the tables and then had everyone pick a number. That number was to be used to pick our eating utensil and drink utensil. There were no typical forks, spoons, or knives. Then, after our utensils were given to us, the food was "served". On the table....no plates. I have to admit that we all had a pretty good time watching others figure out how to pick up that bean or piece of potato salad. But....it was DELICIOUS food. Smoked brisket, baked beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. YUM! We just need to remember that nothing "typical" happens in Texas :)

Wow, what a month we have had around here. I am so late posting that it is almost embarrassing to do it now. I have been working on it for about a week and having trouble with the blog website, downloading pictures. So, I apologize for the funky format and out of order pictures! I don't even know where to start with what all we've done this past month. We started out the month going on a weekend trip to Monarch Ski Town Condos with the Ute Plumbing group! (With out the kiddo :)) Thanks Grandma Joy for keeping August that weekend. We had a great time hanging out at the condos, sitting in the hot tub, sitting around the fire pit, eating wonderful steaks and homemade ice cream. One day we took a 7 hour, 72 mile four-wheeling trip. Some of the following pictures are from that trip. THEN...the next weekend we went camping with about 40 other friends and had an absolute wonderful time. My mom and dad came up to camp with us for the first time. They had a great time riding the four-wheeler and seeing what it looks like above tree line (or air line as some call it ) We took a neat ride down to the beaver ponds and we did see a beaver but I didn't have my camera with me that time. We did see all the destruction that a beaver can do!!!! After that wonderful weekend we headed back to Falcon for one last night, loaded everything up and said "See ya later" to Colorado. We went to mom and dads for about 4 days and then on to Granbury!!!! Our new home! So, here we are, working on getting settled in. It has been a crazy 2 weeks that we have been here, but it already feels like home and we are loving it. The day that we drove in to Granbury it was 103 degrees....a warm Texas welcome :) But it hasn't been as bad lately. Our poor air conditioner on our 5th wheel may not think so though. Yes, we are still living in the 5th wheel. We are still hangin in there...except that I think that it is getting smaller by the day!

Darren has been extra busy with working already! Lots of people want things done around here and are glad to see him :) I am enjoying my time off for now. I start work on Oct. 11th at Cook Children's NICU. I am really really excited about it....except that it is nights. But, I will survive and hopefully a day position will open up eventually. I'm just glad to have a job! :)

August is adjusting well. When we drove into the campground we said, August what do you think? And he said "home"! He's not going to know what to think when actually move into a HOME! After all that driving he sure didn't want to get in the car again for a couple of days! We can't believe how much he is talking. He talks in paragraphs, but you might only be able to make out 5 words. But he gets his point across. He will repeat anything that you want him to say. He loves hanging out with Trace and Trevin, except that he thinks that they are both Trevin :) He loves to play with dirt bikes, four wheelers, and trucks and will grab my hand and say SEAT! for me to sit down with him and play on the floor. He loves to stack them all on top of the truck and see how far he can go before they fall off! I think that my favorite words this month are wakkles (waffels) and stabies (strawberries)!

19 Months!

19 Months! That means that August is now closer to 2 years old than 1 year old!!!! Not real sure if we are ready for the twos....except that I think August drops us hints now and then about what its going to be like! YIKES! This has been another busy month! We got to spend some time in Texas at mom and dads and at Happy convention. The whole family was there.....wow its getting big! Amazingly, we didn't add any new little ones to the family this year. Hmmm, wonder about next year :) August got to spend some time with all 9 of his cousins!!!! I think that he was a bit overwhelmed at times. But, they all got along great......most of the time. While we were there, we celebrated Drake's 5th birthday. That was fun...and loud :) August still amazes us with how much he can talk. He can count to 3 really well and you can just make out 4, 5, 6. He loves to read (or look at) books and loves to point out everything in the pictures. He is still a ball of energy and makes me tired just watching him.

We are still chugging along in our 5th wheel. It hasn't been bad at all. I have to say that I am really starting to miss my own washer and dryer. Doing laundry is an ordeal around here. We only have about 3 more weeks here in Colorado before we head to Texas. We are excited and anxious to get there and start building our new life!

I took a shower the other day and told August to be good! He said Yeah! When I got out of the shower, I found him up on our bed with a pen and had "colowed" all over himself! He was saying "colow owwie" I guess he pressed into his skin pretty good. Think it taught him a lesson? Nope!
We are kindof sortof thinking about potty training. I think right now August just thinks its cool to sit there. We haven't had any results IN the potty yet!
August loves to pretend to drink coffee our of our coffee mugs after we are done with them. He will walk around with it saying "Hot" and pretends he is drinking it. He must like that little drop that he gets from the bottom.

18 Months....a little late :)

Well, once again, I'm behind on posting. When we moved from our house to our camper, we were so excited about all the free time we were going to have. We had images of sitting in our camping chairs under the awning and drinking root beer floats and eating ice cream......it hasn't happened yet! What a crazy busy summer we are having! It's been fun but we would like to take a moment and slow down! Camper living is going really well. The only complaint that I have is that it is hard to find time to do laundry. Other than that....we all still like each other :) and our toes have only been stepped on a few hundred times. Not bad!

We can hardly believe that we have an 18 month old! I took him to his 18 month appointment and all is going great! He is growing! He is still a little bit on the small side for weight - 25 lbs - which puts him in the 39th%tile. But he makes up for it in height - 34.5 in. which puts him in the 95%tile. The development that we have seen in him this past month has been awesome. He is communicating better and better and we are amazed by how well he talks and is even starting to say some sentences like....." I want that" His favorite new word is yeah. Now that he knows the word NO really well, its nice that now he can say yeah as well. August LOVES to jump. He thinks that it is sooo cool that he can get off the ground now! He jumps off everything you can possibly jump off of :) The most amazing thing that he has accomplished this month is swinging on the big swings....no more baby swings for August!

We had a really great visit from our friends Dan & Juliann! We had a great time catching up and shopping and hanging out with them. We are excited for their little girl to join the world in October.

I went and got August's hair cut before we went to Texas and told the lady not to cut it too short....YIKES! It's short! It made him look like a 3 year old! But it grew on me and I'm really starting to like it!

17 Months!!!! And a new adventure!

For those of you who have not heard yet, Darren and I have made the decision to move to TEXAS!!!!! This is something that we have been talking about for a long time and finally decided that it is the best time to do it. We put our house on the market in April thinking that it would take a while to sell because of this economy and ooops, it sold in only 40 days! So, we have moved into our 5th wheel! We are living in a campground just outside of Falcon, Colorado. We have decided that we wanted to spend the rest of the summer here in Colorado to get in some camping and riding! And....we're not crazy enough to move to Texas in the middle of the summer! Maybe crazy enough to live in a 5th wheel for 3 months with a very busy 17 month old...but not crazy enough to move to Texas in the middle of summer :) So, our first week here at Falcon Meadows Campground has gone pretty well. We are still trying to get settled in and organize things. I have to say that this move was pretty difficult. It was so hard to decide what to put into the camper, what to put in short term storage, and what to put in long term storage. I'm sure that we will find out soon that we put something in long term storage that we REALLY need! I am also learning what I can live without. As you can see from the following pictures.....there is A LOT that I think that I can't live without! Thank goodness for a camper with LOTS of storage. Now, lets hope that I didn't overload it so much that we can't pull it :) On the plus side...when we go camping, I won't have to pack a thing! We'll just move our house to the forest :) HAHA! It's amazing how many people do this camp living thing permanently. Some of our neighbors here at the campground have been here for 7 years!!!! I don't think that we will stay here that long :) Our plans are to move to Granbury, Texas after Labor Day in September. At this moment in time, we're not sure where we are going to live when we get there. We will probably do the camper living for a while longer....if we have survived til then. :)

On to a different subject! August! He is growing up TOOOO fast! He is now 17 months old and going through what has to be his terrible 2's! But, we love him anyways! :) The most amazing change that we have seen in him this past month is how much he is talking now. I really need to write down all the words that he can say really well. He is getting a pretty extensive vocabulary. Some of his favorite words right now are plane, bunny, down, done, two, blue, bath, shoe, mommy, daddy, baby, bottle, water, and of course the dreaded.....NO! He is very independent now and has to do everything himself! He is starting to cut his 13th tooth! He loves to make people laugh and is an absolute goof ball!

We went camping for the first time this summer and August had a blast. It was super dirty and dusty. I finally gave up on trying to keep him clean. August fell a lot and would just dust him self off and keep going. Problem was that most of the time he would dust his hands off on his face!

I found this neat little stump and tried so hard to get August's picture on it. He refused to look at me and smile at the same time. He wanted off that stump so bad! Here are the best that I got!

Another month has come and gone. Thankfully, I think that summer is finally on its way. We are really sick of all the snow that we have still been getting. Now, we are starting to get a little rain. When August gets up in the morning, he runs to the sliding doors that lead to our deck and says Brrrrr. I think that's a sign that its been cold LONG enough around here. He is finally getting to go outside and play and he LOVES it. We have a little airport close to our house and he gets so excited when an airplane flies over the house. August is really starting to talk a lot. He says a lot that we don't understand but he knows exactly what he is saying. He will talk and talk and talk with no actual words. He even has the sentence structure and punctuation down. I really need to get it on video but every time I get the camera out he stops. That is also why I don't have many pictures of him this month. I have more pictures of the back of his head as he is running away from the camera! The other day we were at the doctor and she left the room and I told him that she'll be right back and he repeated me! And it was understandable. He also says what we think is "whatcha doing." Speaking of doctors, we made another trip to the doctor this month with ANOTHER ear infection. The doctor is thinking that he has a smaller ear canal on the left since all of his ear infections have been in that ear. Tubes may be in our future....but I sure hope not. August has 12 teeth now!!! This past month he got all 4 molars! Wow! Not looking forward to that again. August is just a ball of energy. He can demolish our house in seconds it seems like. He seems to think that it is just hilarious to be told no and he likes to see how fast he can run from us! T-R-O-U-B-L-E! No wonder I'm so exhausted all the time :)

We bought August a camping chair for this summer. He LOVES to sit in it. He thinks its the coolest thing ever. Notice the crossed feet. He has done this since he was a newborn.

15 months old

Our little booger is now 15 months old! I don't want to blink anymore. It goes to fast and I'm afraid that I'm going to miss something! It seems like this month August is learning more words. Even though we are probably the only ones that can understand what he is saying. He knows what he wants and will say it but usually says just the first syllable. He's getting there though. We have been pretty sick around our house with a stomach bug so this past week has been a hard one. August doesn't do sick very well. He gets pretty whiney and cranky and needy.....just like his daddy :) And it seems like it takes forever for him to get over something. He is still running a fever and won't eat or drink hardly anything. I'm afraid that he's going to waste away to nothing. I'm already afraid to take him out side because the wind will just pick him up and blow him away! I took him to the doctor this week for his 15 month check up. He only weighs 21 pounds which is in the 14th %tile. I think that he weighed more than that before he decided to puke up everything that we put down him, including water. He is now 32 1/4 in. long which is in the 83%tile. According to their measurements, he only grew a 1/4 in. but I'm pretty certain that is wrong seeing that he doesn't fit into his 18 month footie jammies anymore! He was wiggling around quite a bit when we measured him.

This month we took a trip to Granbury, Texas to see our cousins Brad & Lesha Coker and their twin boys, Trace and Trevin. We had a wonderful time, saw beautiful country, and got a lot accomplished :) Maybe we will be neighbors someday?

August got his first "official" hair cut this month. Daddy cut it the past two times but he is just getting too wiggly. It didn't turn out to bad. It was super short afterwards so it was hard to get used to but it is already growing out so much that he almost needs another one. I was sad to see the little curls go away though :)

It was finally nice enough one day to let August go outside and play. Poor guy couldn't figure out how to walk in grass! Be sure and look at the second picture down from this one. It was taken only two days later.....Colorado weather for you!

We bundled August up and let him go outside and play. He doesn't have very good mittens so these kept falling off. But that was ok with him because it was easier to eat the snow this way! That's all he wanted to do.
One of the words that August knows how to say very well is Brrrrrr! I guess that's all he knows right now. Everytime I tell him that we can't go outside right now because its too cold he says, Brrrrr!

14 Months

I'm a bit late getting this posted. It has been incredibly busy around here! Unfortunately, I don't feel like I did very good with taking pictures this past month. August has been sick for a few weeks with a cold and ear infection so it seems like there hasn't been very many picture opportunities....unless everyone wants to see pictures of runny noses, red eyes, and a very whiney boy :)

August no longer walks......he runs! With his hands behind his back?!?!?! So, guess what is the first thing to hit the wall or the floor? Yep, his head! The poor kid constantly has bruises on his head. I think that I remember when his daddy thought that it would be a cool idea to dive into the swimming pool with his hands behind his back....he didn't think about the possibility of hitting the swimming pool bottom with his head! Like father, like son :)

August LOVES to play hide and seek! I don't know if this is a good thing though! He has figured out that he can hide very well in my closet in the hanging clothes. Yesterday I didn't hear him for a while...which means that I need to go see what is going on. I couldn't find him and then I figured out that he was probably in my clothes. So, I went in and found him just standing there trying to hold in a giggle and just waiting. Am I ever going to be able to go anywhere with him???? I never understood why people put their kids on leashes.....I think that I might need to invest in one! Someone asked me the other day how I get him to sleep for 12 hours a night and not wake up. Well, the kid NEVER stops during the day. :) I wish that I could bottle some of his energy! Til next time.... August loves to climb into anything. Here he is sitting in the box of magnet toys.

August is really into books lately. The other day I was cooking and he went and got a book and sat on the floor reading while I was cooking....of course this only lasted about 1 min. then he was on to the next thing.

I never could get August to eat bananas....then I found out that if I let him take bites off a big banana then he eats almost the whole thing! He would have smiled bigger for the camera but his mouth was FULL of banana at the time. Problem is, he doesn't realize that he can't take the next bite until he swallows the first bite. Therefore, we end up with a very full mouth!

13 Months!

Has it really already been a month since August turned 1??? It seems like he is really turning into a little man. It is amazing the change that has taken place in one month. Its amazing that a year ago he couldn't even smile and now he actually understands what we are telling him. August is practically running around the house now. He still doesn't understand that he can get up in the middle of the room so if he falls he crawls to something in order to stand up. But...his main mode of transportation is now his feet instead of his knees. Thankfully that has helped his little legs not get so bruised up.....but it has not helped his head. He has a tendency to run into walls quite often....I think that he might have gotten that from his mother! Half the problem is that he loves to be chased so he will run down the hall looking behind him and run smack into a door frame or the wall. Thankfully he has a pretty hard head and seems to think that it is funny. Go figure...he gets THAT from his dad! August is really into books right now. He loves to point out different things and can look at the same book over and over. He is able to point out many different things if you ask them where they are and he is even saying a couple of words. Our favorite is his word for cookie....Mmmmmmm.

Hair cutting time. We learned that it is not easy to cut a 1 year olds hair! We used a lot of things to keep him busy. His favorite was playing with the phone.

August loves this tunnel that we got for him. He thinks that it is so cool to play peek-a-boo in it! He will sit in it and then fall backwards and roll. He reminds me of a hamster in an exercise wheel :)

What a year! On the 14th, August turned 1! We can't believe how fast that year went. It seemed like just yesterday that our lives were changed forever with the arrival of our little precious boy. We finally became parents..something that we had been hoping and waiting for, for so long. It seems like just yesterday we held him for the first time, heard his first cry, and kissed those chubby cheeks. I remember so vividly how we nervously strapped him into his car seat for the first time and drove home to begin our new lives. Now...we no longer have a baby, but a little boy that is working on walking, saying his first words, throwing temper tantrums, and making us laugh every day. We can only imagine what the days ahead will bring us. I'm sure that there will be lots of laughter, lots of tears, and lots of praying for patience as our little boy grows and learns. When he was born he was 9lb. 3 oz. and was 22 inches long. Now, at one year he is 21 lbs. and 32 in. long. So much growing in a year! This first picture is August when he was just a few hours old and the next picture is one year old!

This past month was a busy one! We went to Grampy and Grammy Hartman's for Christmas. August got to take his first snowmobile ride! He was a bit scared at first but it didn't take him long to start his "vroom vroom"! He discovered a new toy for him....Grammy and Aunt Sandy's walkers!!! We eventually had to hide the walkers because everyone was tired of giving him rides on it :) Aunt Sandy didn't mind giving him rides because it was a good excuse to go by the candy table :):):) August took his first "good" steps on Christmas day. He is still working on the walking thing but goes further every day. He will pull himself up on something and make it to the middle of the room before he falls! The next week we headed to Texas for New Years. We had a lot of fun there with all the cousins! Then it was back home to start planning the first birthday bash! We had a great turnout and August LOVED his cake! I don't think that we will let him eat icing again! He was going in circles that night. He got lots of really cool toys!!!

August is trying to say so many words. He says Hot, Mama, Dad, Pa-Pa, and something that sounds like light and what's that. He uses sign language to tell us more and done. ANYTHING with a motor or wheels on it is "vroom vroom"!!!! He loves to play chase and loves to wrestle with Dad! He laughs when you tell him No, and throws his head back and throws a little tantrum when you take something away from him! That is where the praying for patience comes in! :) He finally cut a 7th tooth and we think some more are coming in !

11 Months!!

Wow! Only one more month to go until August is 1 year old! This has been the fastest year ever! I was just thinking back on a year ago. I was HUGE!!!! And thinking that I would have him "any day"! Now, almost a year has gone by.....and the baby weight is still there :) This has been a wonderful month. It is amazing how much August has learned this month. I think that the biggest change that we can see is that he actually understands what we are telling him. We can ask him a question and he responds in his own wordless way. He loves to point at things. He will point to the clocks and says something that sounds like clock. We can ask him where the light is and he can point to them. His first official word is HOT! He will point at the fireplace, coffee cups, candles and oven and say HOT! He's not walking yet, but I bet if there was a contest out there for the fastest crawler he would win hands down! People comment all the time on how fast he is! He is getting really good at walking around furniture. He will walk if you are holding his hands. And....sigh.....he is into EVERYTHING! Bathroom doors have to stay shut, the pantry door has to stay shut and Darren put cabinet locks on this month! Another biggie this month is that August got his first haircut! I really wanted to wait until he was a year old but....Darren won that one :) I guess he really did need one, but I sure do miss those curls! What an amazing month that we have had here! Until next time....August loves to watch the washing machine and dryer. I find this comical because when I was a little kid you shut the door and just had to imagine what was going on inside! Now they come with windows!
A fast bath before Sunday meeting. August is going through a stage that he loves to feed himself but makes a huge mess and then likes to run his hands through his hair. He gets lots of baths! He's not complaining though

10 Months!!

Once again, another month has gone by. Before we know it we are going to be celebrating August's 1st birthday! Am I ready for my baby to be one??? WOW! I have to admit that this month was a pretty stressful one. We started out the month with August having a 104.6 temperature. When I took him to the doctor he had a pretty bad ear infection so he was started on antibiotics. The ear infection really wiped him out for about 3 weeks. Of course, we started some pretty bad habits during this time....lots of holding and snuggling. He needed it of course...but now that he is better....he thinks that he still needs it :) One of the hardest things for us to deal with was him waking up several times a night screaming. I know, we are super spoiled around here. August has slept through the night since 7 weeks old. For him to be waking up in the night....that is normal for some people so I shouldn't complain. It is just hard when he wakes up several times and you have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work for a 12 hour shift! Makes for some very long and exhausting days! Just this past week I think that August is finally feeling better. He is sleeping through the night and isn't so needy and is his happy go lucky self again. Its good to have him back. At times I wondered who snuck in our house and stole my baby and replaced it with a terror! :):):) August is now into EVERYTHING!!!!! Nothing is out of his incredible reach! That is one bad thing about have a tall kid...he can reach even the stuff that you think you are putting up high! He loves to play with anything but his toys and when you tell him NO, he turns and looks at you and laughs and keeps doing it! YIKES! I think that some serious discipline is in order here! August also has decided that he doesn't want anything to do with baby food anymore. He was going through about 4-5 jars of baby food a day and so I went to Babies R Us and bought 34 jars and the next day he decided that he was done! No more! So, he is now eating anything off our plate and if he can feed it to himself...the better! I am trying to teach him how to use a fork :) It's slow going right now...but he loves to do it. I got tired of hearing him scream when he was wanting some more so I taught him how to sign for more. He caught on pretty quick and it sure makes for a quieter meal! His favorite thing right now is puppies! He loves looking at puppies in books and he has several jammies that have puppies on them and he likes to point at them and make puppy dog sounds. Every day is a new adventure around here! August and Ava at their first halloween!
Mommy and August. The carrier worked perfect for going door to door. It was a nice night, a little on the cool side, but no snow!!! We went to about 15 houses and brought home lots of candy for mom and dad :) August liked to hold on to the basket and shake it up and down to hear the candy in it!

I believe that I have a picture of me doing this same thing at about this age. I can't do dishes without August being RIGHT there. I usually have to wait until he is napping to do dishes. I turned away for just a second and he had climbed up into the dishwasher.

August has figured out that he can play the piano by himself! It is great entertainment for him!

9 Months and ON THE MOVE!

I'm embarrassed about how long it has taken me to post this. I have been working on it for about a week, its been a crazy month for us here. Go, Go, Go....just like August! August turned 9 months old on the 14th. Where did 8 months go??? It definitely went fast! We spent this past month camping, going to Bird City Convention, to Texas to see Mamaw and Paw Paw, and to Greeley to see Grandma Joy. We were gone just about every weekend. August really does great travelling. In fact, he actually does better when we are going somewhere then when we are just sticking around the house. When I took him to his 9 month appointment he weighed in at 19 pounds which is in the 26%tile, and he is 30.8 in. long which is in the 98%tile. Even though he is not gaining a lot of weight the doctor is not worried because he is healthy and his growth curve is going up. He is just loooooooong and skinny. We totally skipped the 9 month clothes. We went straight to 12-18 month. They are HUGE in the waist but at least he is not preparing for a flood :) Our other HUGE accomplishment this month is CRAWLING!!!! YIKES! I thought that I was busy before. At the first of the month he was rocking on his hands and knees and then one day figured out that he could "army crawl" and boy was he fast. He did this for several weeks and then he finally started to crawl for real! Last week he learned how to pull up to his feet. He had been pulling up to his knees for some time but finally figured out how to get to his feet. The funny thing is that he would stand in one position forever because he didn't know how to get back down! After about 4 days of this he decided to try to move along furniture and now he tries to go from one piece of furniture to the other if they are close. He is moving along FAST! August now has 6 teeth. Four on the top and two on bottom. That means that he is LOVING real food that he can chew. He love cheerios and chicken! Oh yeah...and mammaw's homemade butter pecan ice cream! He is almost starting to prefer table food over baby food...which is fine with me :) This past week has been a little bit hard for August. He was so fussy at the beginning of the week which is odd for him and he was really clingy. Darren and I just thought that he was teething. Then two nights ago he woke up about 6 times during the night and just wouldn't sleep and was burning hot so we took his temp and it was 103. We took him to the doctor the next day and he has an ear infection. Yuck! His temp got up to 104 last night but this morning he is feeling much better. Hopefully those antibiotics will kick in quick! It is so hard to see your little one sick and hurting. It just breaks your heart. I thought that being a nurse would toughen me up a bit but when it comes to your own child its a whole different ballgame. We are having an amazing time here watching August grow and learn. And of course we are LOVING his big hugs and sloppy kisses!

We have to be careful about the times that we let him play because it is VERY difficult to get him away from the piano. August is 8 months old!

Once again, another month has flown by! I think that it just keeps going faster and faster. August turned 8 months old on the 14th. I know that I have said this many times before but it is so amazing to watch him grow and learn. It seems like they develop so quickly that if you blink then you will miss the amazing transformation of a baby. What we have noticed this month is that August learns so quickly. We have several toys that you have to push a button to make the song start. We show him where the button is once and he sits there and pushes it over and over again. Of course, this becomes very annoying to mom and dad :) But...whatever makes baby happy....right??? :) We have gone camping several times this month. August has done great on every camping trip. He loves being outdoors and LOVES to watch the dirtbikes and four-wheelers and campfire. He loves being on the four wheeler and going for rides. We put him in the Baby Bijorn and he just talks the whole time we are riding. The last camping trip that we went on was super cold and rainy so he didn't get to go on a ride that time. August got three teeth in two weeks! He has his bottom two and then a top side tooth. I was surprised about the top tooth. We thought that he would get the front tooth first but I guess he didn't read the instruction book on that one. He looks pretty funny with a side tooth but oh well, it adds character. He did really well through his tooth cutting experience. A couple of times he was fussy but for the most part he was pretty good. The other thing that we are working on is crawling. He is soooo close. He gets up on his hands and knees and rocks and rocks. He actually rocks so hard that he scoots along. He can also cover alot of square feet by rolling. Even though he's not crawling yet we went ahead and put the gate up at the stairs because he is so fast when he rolls. We are having a blast here.

August LOVES to smile for the camera. You put the camera up and he just starts "cheeseing". It is hilarious! Then he likes to look at the picture after you take it.

Notice the cold rain outside the window. We spent a lot of time in the camper for this camping trip. We thought that we would wake up to snow but it didn't happen. The leaves are starting to change colors though. Very beautiful!

7 MONTHS!!!

Well, another month has flown by. It was a busy one for us! We went to Texas for Happy Convention, went to the zoo, and went camping. Convention was great. The whole family was there except for Dale. One of these days he will be able to make it! It was great to see everyone. Even Shanda and Marcus made it with their new little one, Creed. August is doing great. He is sitting up great now and rolls all over the place. He is starting to pull his knees up under him, probably not long before he starts to crawl. Still no teeth even though I think that he is trying to get some. He has started to wave bye-bye! He is doing great at eating solid food now. His favorite is prunes and sweet potatoes and yogurt. Happy 1/2 birthday August! Half a year has gone by with our little sweetie! I have to say that it has been the best, most exciting, adventurous 6 months ever! August is growing and developing so fast it is just amazing. I took him for his 6 month check up and everything is looking great except for his weight. He is a little too skinny and not putting on weight like he should. (He's not taking after his mommy on this one). He is 16 lbs. 3.2 ounces which puts him in the 27th %tile. So, we are having to add rice cereal to his bottles. He doesn't seem to mind it and sucks it right down. Hopefully that will add some calories to his diet and help him gain some weight. We are also pushing solids. He still doesn't like to eat solids very well and we really have to work with him. Silly kid...we found out that he likes organic over Gerber. Go figure. He had sweet potatoes today and gobbled it down! August does have one thing going for him.....his height! He is 29 in. long which puts him in the 99th %tile!!!! Basketball scholarship in the future??? Our big developmental milestone this month is sitting up! August thinks that it is the greatest thing that he can sit up on his own now! He gets so proud of himself :) He still loves to talk and sing and when Daddy plays the piano August is sure to sing along! His favorite games to play are "Where's August?", "AHHHH BOO!", and "I'm gonna get you"! It's so great because he just dissolves into giggles! It makes our heart melt to hear his giggles. August went to his first convention this past month, Elizabeth. He did really well but was done by Sunday! Summer has been busy for us and we are hoping to get more camping trips in!

August is 5 months old!

Well, another month has flown by and August is now 5 months old! It hardly seems possible. Just the other day we gave August his first solid food...good ol rice cereal. I have to say that he didn't think much of it. And still doesn't. He seems to have no interest at all in eating solid food and does a great job of spitting it all back out. I guess we will just have to keep at it. August is almost sitting up. He will do good for awhile and then gets busy playing and falls over. Hopefully he will catch on soon. His big accomplishment this past month was rolling from his stomach to back. He has been rolling the other way for a few months now and has finally figured out how to get back over. There is only one problem with this. He does it in his sleep and wakes himself up. So much for my little boy that slept for 10 hours straight at night. I guess he thought that I was getting spoiled :) This too shall pass....:) August went on his first camping trip this month. We had a blast! Thankfully the weather held out and it was pretty nice. August loves being outdoors and now he knows what campfire smells like :) Hopefully we will have more times this summer to go camping again. It is going to be a busy summer!

Memorial Day in Texas

We went to Mom and Dad's for Memorial Day and had a great time. Of course, it was too short. Wish we could have spent more time there. It was great to see everyone and we had tonz of fun. One day we went to the ranch and rode ATV's and cooked out and had homemade icecream. Yummmm! August loved spending time with Mamaw and Papa.

Forgetful me. I forgot to mention in my last post that August had his 4 month check up (and shots...ouch!) At his appointment he was 14 lb. 11 oz. which is in the 49%tile and he was 27 in. long, which is in the 98%tile. So, he's long and skinny....like a noodle :) The doctor was happy with his growth!

Well, another month has FLOWN by! August turned 4 months old on the 14th. The development of a child is the most amazing thing ever! We can't believe how many new things that August learns each day. Just after he turned 3 months old he learned how to roll over from his back to his stomach. If you lay him down on the floor now it takes about 2 seconds for him to roll over to his tummy. He is great about staying on his tummy for awhile and then he wants to roll back over but hasn't figured that out yet. He absolutely will NOT stay on his back to play though. It's pretty funny to watch. August has a new favorite toy...his Jumparoo! You put him in that and he jumps and jumps and jumps and has a grand ol time! He is starting to figure out a few of the toys on there but thinks that he is pretty cool stuff that he can jump. His hand eye coordination is getting really good. He will grab on to toys that are held out in front of him and they go STRAIGHT to his mouth. We think that he is starting to teeth because he soaks about 3 bibs a day and he sucks on anything that he can get into his mouth....including both fists! We are having so much fun here in the Hartman house!

Wow! Its been awhile since I have posted pictures of August on here. I can't believe that August is already 3 months old! He is just amazing! Everyday he learns something new. It's amazing how much he is doing now compared to just a few weeks ago. We are starting to get some real giggles out of him now. He has a few tickle spots that are sure to bring a giggle out of him. He is also LOVING his hands. I think that he is beginning to teeth because he can't seem to keep his hands out of his mouth. We have also started putting a bib on him because he is totally soaking his outfits in drool :) August has started grabbing at and holding on to objects now. Once he has ahold of it he isn't real sure what to do with it though. Most times he tries to put it in his mouth. He will also grab onto our fingers and bring them to his mouth. The newest thing that he has done is rolling from his back to his side. As you can see in the pictures he is always ready with a smile on his face. It is so much fun to talk to him because he just watches you and then "talks" back just like he knows exactly what you are saying. My newest thing is that I started back to work. That had to be one of the hardest things that I have ever done in my life. A lady down the street from us that has an in-home daycare is watching him. It was soooo hard to leave him there and walk away knowing that I was not going to see him for 13 hours. Daddy has been picking him up at 4:00 and keeping him until I get home. He does an awesome job with him! The best thing is that I only have to work 2 days a week. We are still loving having August around here to keep us entertained

What a week! We had a wonderful, busy week in Mexico. The wedding was beautiful, the weather hot, and the sightseeing amazing! August did so wonderful on the trip. He went along on everything with us. I think that we wore the poor boy out. He was so exhausted when we got home....along with his parents! Vacationing with a 2 month old is not the same as vacationing as a couple :) Here are some snapshots of the highlights of our Mexico trip.

I'm 7 Weeks Old!

7 Weeks already! That is almost 2 months old!!!!! YIKES! August is going to be 16 and asking for a car before we know it :) He is really starting to hold his head up good (see pictures) and is almost laughing. He gets excited and squeeks instead of laughs right now. He LOVES to listen to singing. Whenever he is upset we just start singing and he just starts singing with us....his version of singing anyways. He loves the hymns and it is quite comical in meeting to listen to him singing along. The other new thing that he has learned this week is how to kick in the bath! I somehow seem to be soaked after his little kicking session in the bathtub. Oh, I don't know if I should mention this and jinx us, but....the last two nights August has slept for 7 hours straight! Wow! As always...we are having a blast around here!

6 weeks!

Well, here I am, posting 6 week old pictures and August is almost 7 weeks. This past week went a little too fast for me, I guess. August is really cooing and smiling a lot now and we MIGHT have heard a little giggle the other day. He really gets excited when we lay him on the floor and he just kicks and kicks. He has also discovered himself in the mirror. We have a mirror on the back of the seat where his car seat is and everytime we go somewhere he just talks and talks to the "other baby in the mirror." It is very entertaining. We just wish that we knew what he was saying :)

Another week has already gone by and August is now 5 weeks old! Wow! I know that I probably say this a lot but...where does the time go??? I am still amazed by how many new things August does each week. His cooing and "talking" is getting more often and louder :) And smiles are getting bigger! He loves music and looking at shiny things. We are having so much fun around here, even with our lack of sleep :)

Cripple Creek Ice Festival

This past weekend we went to Cripple Creek for the Ice Festival. Brrrr...it was a cold day. We had lots of fun with Adam, Sherry and the boys and Dan. What a beautiful drive up there and a very interesting town :) We had as much fun people watching as we did ice sculpture viewing!!!

WOW! Where has the time gone? We can't believe that August is four weeks old already. It seems like yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital. Everyday is a new adventure around here. August is giving us his first real smiles (not gas smiles) :) Yesterday I was able to finally catch them on camera. In fact, he was smiling so much I just kept snapping pictures and I think that I have about 20 pictures of him smiling. He is starting to coo a little also. It's funny because he will coo and then give a look like, "where did that come from, who was that???" It is so neat to see what new thing he will do each day.

Trip to Texas!

This past weekend, we took August to Texas for his first trip. He did amazing! We only had to stop twice to feed him. He slept the rest of the trip! Couldn't have asked for anything better. We had a great time and August got to meet lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He already can't wait for his next trip to Texas :) Double trouble!!

This is a really interesting photo. We have recently discovered that August has something very unique about him. If you look closely at his left eye (you may have to increase the picture size) you can see that the top half of his eye is brown. We wonder if it will stay this way?!?!

Well, once again I am a week behind in getting pictures posted. August is really 3 weeks old today...but here is a 2 week old picture. Maybe next week I will have his 3 week old picture up :0) At his two week old appointment, he was 22 in. long (this is the 91%tile) and weighed
9l bs. 1 oz. (63%tile). He is almost to his birth weight.

YIKES!!!! I am 2 weeks old already???
